What To Do In Tai Hang

Haw Par Mansion

Once frequented by visitors for its extravagant gardens and exotic ornaments, which were sadly demolished in 2004 to make way for a large residential complex, Haw Par Mansion has now been converted into a private music school and museum. The Grade I historic mansion itself has been preserved, for the most part, and is open to the public with guided tours available upon request.

Fire Dragon Dance

Legend has it that in the 19th century, the villagers of Tai Hang warded off an evil plague by staging a fire dance for three days and three nights, thus sparking one of our favourite local traditions — the annual Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance. Come Mid-Autumn Festival (late September to early October), watch in wonder as a 67-metre fire dragon made with more than 70,000 incense sticks dances through the streets of Tai Hang. For the best view, head to Wun Sha Street.

Tai Hang’s own exhibition and social concept space THE SHOPHOUSE takes residence in a Grade III listed pre-war tong lau where creative agency Unveil Unlimited fills its five floors with collections from both local and international artists. Landmark has done it again with a breathtaking Christmas feature in the main atrium. This year it’s inviting us to create joy with the mischievous Cocoa Monsters! When the display comes alive every half hour and on the hour, the Cocoa Monsters lovingly create their chocolates for all to share but watch out for the Greedy Monsters hanging out nearby to steal it for themselves!

The Repulse Bay Christmas Fair

Back after a two-year hiatus, The Repulse Bay Christmas Fair is set to bring over 45 brands that have been specially curated for a head-start to Christmas shopping. The alfresco setting lets us relive the charm of Repulse Bay whilst having a wide access to gifts such as fashion accessories, books, fine French foods, beauty products, homeware and so much more. In short, it’ll be a breeze picking out goodies for gifting, especially if you’re on the lookout for Secret Santa and more Christmas activities.

AWA Foundation Charity Bazaar 2022

American Women’s Association’s signature annual outdoor market is back, with local businesses coming together to help raise much-needed funds for non-profit organisations in Hong Kong. Perhaps the longest-running bazaar in the city (35 years!), this year’s AWA Foundation Charity Bazaar will see over 60 vendors with a variety of goods at PMQ, in the heart of Soho. This year’s target is $400,000 through vendor tables, a Silent Auction and the Giving Tree, with all proceeds going directly to Hong Kong-based charities. See you there!

The ‘Good Gift’ Christmas Fair 2022

Non-profit charity Crossroads is partnering with Fair Trade Hong Kong to host an ethical Good Gift Christmas Fair, with fun activities like feeding goats and a zip line with the Arboriculture Society of Hong Kong, as well as simulations about world issues run by Crossroads, sustainable crafts and happenings from other vendors! Plus, shop Fair Trade and Social Enterprise gifts and goodies made by producers from all over the world. There’ll be a free shuttle bus from Tuen Mun and limited parking space on the day. Entry is free but you must pre-register in advance to attend!
