La Vache!

Priced at just $318 per person for a trimmed entrecote steak, special house sauce, unlimited French fries and a green salad with walnuts, La Vache! has got to be one of the best value steak experiences in the city. And it’s not just the price that has us going back time and time again. From the totally Instagrammable neon cow sign at the entrance, to the dessert trolley coming round just when you think you couldn’t eat another bite, La Vache! never disappoints. Both the Peel Street and TST locations are open for lunch and dinner daily. Be sure to book in for its Sunday Le Disco Brunch, which takes place on the first Sunday of every month, to enjoy your steak with a side of free-flow cocktails, wine and a house DJ.

Harbourside Grill

Perched above the harbour in TST’s Ocean Terminal, Harbourside Grill is the place to go if you like your steak with a view. The sweeping 180-degree city vistas are nothing short of show-stopping – we can’t think of a better place to tuck into expertly-grilled Wagyu and USDA certified steak. The restaurant offers an impressive range of wet and dry-aged cuts (starting from $348), all cooked over Japanese charcoal for a tender, flavourful finish. To accompany your steak, take your pick from a selection of sauces. We recommend the Five-Peppercorn, featuring a mix of white, black, green, French rose peppercorn and Sichuan pepper, and the Bordelaise, which has a light hint of fruitiness thanks to the addition of raspberry vinegar.

HENRY

Since its opening late last year, HENRY has quickly made a name for itself as Rosewood’s must-try American grill and smokehouse. Equipped with live-fire ovens, charcoal grills and even its own signature butcher’s shop, it’s no surprise to learn that all things meat is the order of the day. Highlights here include the 44 Farms Texas Whisky and Ash-aged Beef, available in a T-Bone or Porterhouse cut, along with the the monster Brandt Ranch 1.8kg Tomahawk, grilled to perfection by Chef de Cuisine Nathan Green. Alongside the meat, Henry offers a choice of six steak sauces, as well as a range of homemade ketchups and hot sauces. The standout for us was without doubt the Smokey Blue Béarnaise – perfect for lovers of rich and creamy blue cheese. Just make sure to book your table in advance; rumour has it that there’s at least a two-week waiting list for weekend reservations.

Rubia

Though ostensibly not a steakhouse, there’s no denying that steak is a highlight at Spanish Taberna Rubia. Enjoy premium cuts of the highly-prized Galician Blond variety, served with hand-cut “Patatas Fritas”, sweet smoked piquillo peppers and mustard dressed greens. The cows featured here have been left to roam the Galician hills of Northern Spain for up to 18 years, resulting in a uniquely rich and deep flavoursome experience. With prices starting at $499, this is certainly one of our top end picks, though it’s worth noting that one dish could easily satisfy two. Round out your feast with a handful of the restaurants tapas dishes; the Octopus Gallega on Potato Cream ($135) is a particular favourite of ours!
